We’d like to end the week with some news on the mobile phone front. It seems that these little gadgets have been getting more attention than laptops and notebooks combined and we wouldn’t be surprised as they are the darlings of the media today.
Palm Pre hacked to run on Verizon
Sprint must be concerned that someone named Cleanser in the Pre Forums was able to run Verizon on an exclusive Sprint Palm Pre. Check out the video below:
Voice and texting are doing fine but data’s still down. The reason?
Only problem is that I can’t get data to work. Apparently webOS is checking to see if the device is provisioned or not before allowing a data session to take place. So my next step would be to somehow bypass this provisioning check.
There’s been a lot of feedback as to why anyone would want to run a Palm Pre on a Verizon network due to their services and absence of signal in different parts of the country.
Hopefully we’ll see more from this person soon. That is until Verizon starts selling Palm Pre as well.
Blackberry Onyx with trackpad seen!
Blackberry’s old and tested trackball (also called a pearl) may not be to everyone’s liking but with the pictures seen below, it looks like they’ll be putting a trackpad on the next Blackberry.

The BlackBerry 9020, for now known by its codename Onyx, will be shipping out retail-style with an optical trackpad in lieu of the trackball. Based on the photograph above it’s impossible to tell if what we’re looking at is a late prototype or an early production unit, but seeing as the Onyx has already begun its factory journey we certainly can’t rule the later out.
Is this the phone to make the iPhone users go back to their old crackberry or will this fail? Is this a photoshop job or is it real? We’ll only know for sure when RIM makes an official announcement and we’ll be there to check it out as well.
