A mainstay in the GPS market, Magellan takes both the name of the famous explorer and the technology that made it the most well-known name in GPS technology for as long as we can remember. Now, even as time had passed, they are coming up with a new model. The RoadMate 1700 is the newest addition to the heavily-acclaimed RoadMate line of consumer-level GPS navigation devices.
Coming with a 7” WVGA screen that offers four times the standard resolution of most GPS devices, the Magellan RoadMate 1700 uses the OneTouch user interface as with all others in the RoadMate range for accessibility and ease of use. This is so that you don’t have to take your eyes off the road while browsing over it for directions. With a regular map, you have to have half of your view obscured by the big and cumbersome piece of paper with confusing signs and symbols on it that only cartographers and expert navigators would understand.
Each Magellan RoadMate 1700 comes with maps of the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico bundled. Highway lane assistance, spoken street name guidance, mini USB 2.0 connectivity, microSD memory card slot, multi-destination routing with route optimization, and integrated AAA TourBook guide travel information are also available to assist you in navigating anywhere within these places. In addition to being just some boring old navigation device, you can entertain the kids riding at the back of your car by connecting the video-in jack to an iPod or monitor to watch live video, although the cable is not included.
It will also come with a windshield mount and cradle, cigarette lighter adapter, protective pouch, USB cable, and dashboard adhesive disk so you can use it in your car and transfer data in your computer. It will cost you $299, which is a good investment for such a device.
